Gonna let it all hang out...
by teresa
Me and two other PTA'ers are going to start walking together Mon., Wed. and Fri. mornings. They have been doing it for a few weeks...so I will have to build to their pace.
I'm excited for the exercise and for the lady talk.
Went to our next door neighbor's wedding last night. It was very sweet and the reception was great. Yummy food and who doesn't like to sit around and bust on the tipsy people dancing? You think you can read a person....but let the dj play a fast paced dance tune and the predetermined image is blown right out the window.
Picture it...
"older" lady
conservative, polyester pantsuit
hair in a bun...high and tight
sitting with hubby in the corner.
Then the dj starts up Shania Twain's "Man! I Feel Like a Woman"
Oh my goodness.
Strutting, spinning, pelvic thrusts, wiggles, arms in the air, eyes closed, lips puckered.
What a hoot!!!

Actual questions and comments heard in the Green house this week
by teresa
I don't remember learning anything about Asia in school except for the Korean War and Cambodia.
Going to the beach with my 90lb, 4foot Filipino friend Arlene, makes me feel like I'm in an episode of Rob and Big.
I almost prairie-dogged diarrhea. That would not have been good.
You are cutting my hair with clippers that aren't even on.

He's happy for any excuse that let's him touch himself.
My kids aren't getting in the bathtub for the rest of the summer.
Hey Kaden...will you kill those birds for me?
I wish Elmo would push that baby down.
We are going to have a meeting and talk about backyard procedures.
No matter what happens in the news...Rev. Jessie Jackson is on tv talking about it.You are cutting my hair with clippers that aren't even on.

chauffeur mom

Back and forth...back and forth...back and forth.
That's been my week.
From our house to ODU.
Soccer camp is in full effect and Ben and his friends can't get enough.
They go all day, come home from two hours and then head back for more at night.
Sixteen hours in two days so far.
Can you imagine having that much energy?
I need a nap just being a spectator.
Am I complaining...no.
The alternative is a house full of bored ten yr. olds, and nobody wants that.

to swim or not to swim?
by teresa
Today is the end of Ben's "swimmers ear pool ban".
I wonder if he will get in after soccer camp...or if the memory of the pain will keep him dry a bit longer?

take me out to the ballgame

Kai's first AllStar experience was less than expected.
He did absolutely outstanding...catching fly balls, hitting hard and long. But the overall teams performance was pretty sad. No fundamentals...very irritating.
They played 3 games...and lost 3 games.
It didn't help that the tournament was on the hottest day of the year.
I thought we would die out there and the boys look positively drained.
This weekend is the last tournament and I am wishing for them to play with excellence.
If not...I may just have to coach next year. I do not like my babies to lose.

Why is it when your children become teenagers they feel the need to treat you like crap?
Attitude, snippy little comments and an overall aura of superiority.
I am not a moron.
You are not my boss.
And if you roll your eyes at me again I will unleash all my "wisdom" on you like you will not believe.

straight has the right away doofus!
by teresa
Almost crashed my car into a light pole this morning.
Running out to get the boys a biscuit (bogo coupon from MickeyD's).
Going *ahem* around 45ish down the highway.
Crossing through a lighted intersection when...whoosh...a car going the opposite way turns across me.
No time to brake....at all.
I channeled my inner Earnhardt and did the craziest moves I had ever seen off track.
ERRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....Avoided car, avoided light pole, avoided flip (all the time maintaining my speed).....and then drove on...unscathed and undeterred on my free biscuit mission.
My heart is still beating a mile a minute.
The rest of the way home I think I maintained 15mpr...tops.
That kind of a close call will keep you in check for a good while.
Any of you had close calls like that?
Any of you have an accident story to tell?

Boiled some eggs for breakfast this morning.
Ben walked in and insisted that I was farting.
I could not convince him that it was the eggs.

no pool for five days

Ben has swimmers ear.
For a "loud and vocal" sick kid (even for paper cut), that meant a night of no sleep and shrill pain induced moans.
I am spiking his pain meds with liquor tonight.
I gotta get some z's.

party at my house!
by teresa
Nick's party went off without a hitch. Katy and I spied out the windows and even ventured out to grab a hamburger and smoothie. There were girls there....EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! In bikinis...oh my. And the boys didn't seem to be acting like doofuses.
We were very impressed as we were excluded from any of the pre-party planning, setting up, cooking or cleanup. Nick handled everything and we just provided the financial aid.
Swimming, grilling, smoothies, basketball and what teenagers do best....chilling and talking. It went on until 11:00pm and then Nick came in all smiles and hit the hay.
Apparently being popular is exhausting.
I have been forbidden from posting pictures...sorry.

Day One
by teresa
It's the first day of summer vacation.
We slept in.
Ate a good breakfast (biscuits and fruit).
Now heading out to the pool to read while the boys (Ben and two friends) swim the day away.
Nick, my highschooler, is still sleeping. The way any self respecting teenager should.

He was the only one who would stop me from going to the grocery store late at night.
I would start my car and he would run out and bar me from leaving. "It's too late...it's dangerous", he would plead.
He worried.
That was nice.
Now people would send me out at any hour, for anything they needed.
Late? Whatever....just get me my soda.

I am taking my camera...so you will have to suffer through pictures later.
Tonight is my first PTA Board meeting as 'el presidente.

three and a half days left
by teresa
I did not want to get up this morning.
Could have had something to do with me being up till 2:00 washing clothes?
I just couldn't pull myself away from all the fun we had this weekend to wash.
So I had to wash a few hundred tubs so the boys would have something to wear to school today.
I am so ready for school to be over! They get out Thursday at noon. Until then they have exams to study for, field day, parties, recognition ceremonies, etc. And pretty much all of it...I am involved in. See why I need school to be over? I need a break too.

what ingredient took it from brownies to a cake?
by teresa
I decided to make Chris some brownies on Friday.
From scratch...which was a first.
He had hinted the night before that he would really love a brownie and I wanted to surprise him.
I gathered all the ingredients and set them out on the counter.
I tried to get the cocoa powder, but it was too high in the cabinet.
I grabbed a big spoon and did my short girl, pinata move. That's how I usually get things from the top shelf. Swat and swing till it gets knocked within my grasp.
Well, I hit too hard and the cocoa powder flew down and hit the counter.
It open and poofed all over the kitchen. It was a huge mess.
I cleaned it up, which took forever, and made the brownies.
They were from an old church cookbook recipe.
When I pulled them out of the oven it was a chocolate cake.
What the heck?
The recipe said Texas brownies....but there was nothing brownie about it.
Everyone loved it, especially with the fudgy icing. But I had really wanted a brownie.
Later that evening Katy remarked about something all over my back.
It was cocoa powder. good grief.

these two things just don't go together
by teresa
A shiny, silver Mercedes E Class Coupe ....with three bags of pork rinds sitting in the back window.
A new, black BMW 650 convertible....driven by a woman wearing a confederate flag ball cap.
*I saw both of these freakish wonders on the way home today*

I need to clean today.
I am not in the mood.
I think I will put on a pretty shirt (dry clean only) so I will have to avoid it until tomorrow.

I would like a cup of Darjeeling Vidyaranya Black Tea please
by teresa
"Mom, can I just stay home from school...we aren't doing anything?"
This is the question I have heard from both boys...every morning...for over a week.
They both have summer-itis...bad.
Only 7 more school days left. The last is even a half day. So I think they can make it.
Yesterday I attended a tea party.
It was for MOPS and they do it at the end of every year (MOPS is from Sept. to May).
I forgot my camera and I am so mad at myself for that.
I had a good time and was even full when leaving.
I say that because Katy and I were looking at the online menu and commenting that we will have to grab a bite to eat after we leave the tea. Tiny sandwiches and tea bread just didn't seem very satisfying. But they were and delicious too. Twenty something ladies showed up and we had a blast. Talking (loudly) and laughing (even more loudly) for two hours. We only left one broken tea cup and some stained table cloths in our wake.

red balloon
by teresa
I saw a red balloon dancing down Battlefield Blvd this afternoon.
Low to the ground. Bouncing, spinning over the bridge.
Tucked close to the guard rail, whooshed away from the traffic.
I was thinking that it was a good life for a balloon.
She was careful enough not to get popped, but still free to float wherever the breeze blows her.
Bouncing along...slowly shrinking, yes...but still free.
That's better than popping...right.
I would rather deflate leisurely than pop.

weekend fun
by teresa
We had such a great time this weekend.
The team car wash was a success and the team party we hosted afterward was so much fun.
We had about 40 kids, siblings and parents over to eat, swim and shoot the breeze.
It began around 5:00pm and the last family left close to 10:00pm. It was so much fun that the team requested we have a backyard blast once a month.
Sounds great to me.
