what was that noise?

by teresa

Sunday night as we sat watching tv around 9:40ish, we heard a loud boom.
I chalked it up to thunder and kept about my business.
Well, the next day I read that we were not the only one to hear this BOOM.
Apparently, folks from Va. to Maryland heard the mysterious noise and saw and accompanying bright light.
All the newspapers had interviews with people who had seen it, all the broadcasters gave their opinions of what it was. blah blah blah.
One of the articles online we read had comment boxes for readers to write in their explanations.

My favorite comments:

"Someone please tell me if this is the Rapture. I live in Portland, Oregon, so its not like anyone here would actually go missing."

"God’s mad that his warranty on his F150 is worth nothing after today."

"Madonna finally realized she’s fifty?"

"Dang, am I too late....are all the christian gone?"

bad mom

by teresa

I dropped Nick off at school and as he was walking away from the car I noticed a considerable hole in the back of his jeans. I could see his plaid boxers peeking from under the rend. Did I call him back to the car and take him home to change....or did I ignore it and drive off, leaving him to face a day of teasing and ridicule?

I left.

*sorry nick*

actual questions and comments heard in the green house

by teresa

Who licked my lolly?

I dropped it in dog hair.

I'm going to wear my hair net to bed and see if he notices.

I wrote "sexy mama" in icing today.

I need to start knocking before I open the door.

I tried to pretend I was asleep, but she crawled in beside me anyway.

I am the only one in this house who knows where Food Lion is?

You're salty and I'm sweet.

Just the part about the midget on the train is offensive.

I work myself silly so they have nothing to complain about.

When refilling my cup I noticed it had another persons name written on the side. gross.

week one down

by teresa

Easter eggs is still going strong (week one of three down).
We've made over 3,000 little sugar balls.
Can you say hand cramp? Back ache? Delirium?

Yesterday was our marathon day. Working more than fourteen hours straight to get caught up in orders. Phew. I slept gooood last night!

I am actually not tired (a miracle) and excited to get back in the trenches today. I will definitely take the weekend off.

*funniest thing that happened yesterday*
We were ready to pack it up and get home last night. Exhausted and on our tenth diet coke each, we were laughing at the drop of a hat and speaking incoherently. Mary, my partner in crime could not find her keys. We looked high and low to no avail. Retracing her steps didn't work and we were all sooo ready to get out of there. After twenty minutes of this we hear her scream out from around the corner. She had found them. But where?

In her bra.
The dang keys were tucked in her bra (her pants had no pockets) the entire time.
So funny!

Jamestown

by teresa

The fourth grade classes at Ben's school went to Jamestown this week.
Ben had never been before and was very excited.
The museums, old settlements, war reenactments, authentic clothing, muskets. Ben's mind was bursting with these images as the field trip day neared.
I dropped him off early in the morning to meet the buses and he arrived back home late in the after noon.
Later that night, as we lay in bed replaying our days to each other I asked,"so, what was your favorite part of the day?"
"Ummmmm, the BUS."
"But what about the war stuff...and the cannons?", I asked.
"That was ok." "The bus had a BATHROOM!!"
"Did they dress in old clothes and have houses made of mud and sticks?", I asked.
"Yep, they looked kinda weird." "It was alot of walking." "The bus had RECLINERS and a MOVIE!!"
Well, I see that was money well spent.
I hope they don't have a test on any information learned outside of the bus.

girl power!

by teresa
We froze our butts off at Kristian's soccer game last night. I had on a heavy coat and took a blanket to wrap up in and I still had a mild case of frost bite when I climbed into the car. She and Hailey (her stepsister) did really great. Unfortunately they lost (I won't put the score because they got trounced) but they looked pretty doing it. I love the green jerseys!

where is my parka?

by teresa

What is up with this weather?
Ben had to be up at school early this morning for a field trip.
With every fourth grader's parent dropping them off at the same time, they recommended we park near school and walk them over. So I did. The only problem was that I didn't wear a coat. The days have been in the high 50's and above....so it was a complete shock to my body when the 30 degree (before windchill) temp hit my body. brrrr.
I need spring to ....spring.

Today's to do list reads:
Make eggs
Make bon bons
Make beds
Make dinner and
Make ....

you just can't mix alcohol and stupid

by teresa

Ben's game was super exciting...just like we wanted. They won 3 to 2 against our rival CUSC team. It was a little too exciting for some parents, who acted like 2 yr olds during and after the game (not our parents). Yelling for their kids to push ours down, running on the field to scream at our coach and chasing people down in the parking lot. Boy, can you see some interesting things at a childs' sporting event. It was so ridiculous, 911 was almost called and I was about to break out the pepper spray. Good grief! Can't wait to face them again!

I know alot of our readers play sports or have kids in sports....what are some of the crazy things you have seen while attending a game?

another Saturday come and gone

by teresa

Ben's soccer game was not very exciting. They won 12 to 0. At some point you actually feel guilty for cheering and start routing for the other team to do...anything. He has a makeup game this afternoon and I hope it is a more challenging team.

Nick was out with church friends most of the day. They had a prayer vigil, consumed way too much CiCi's pizza and practiced for an Easter skit they will be performing for the church. Can you think of a better way for a 13yr old boy to spend a Saturday?

Lauren slept, worked and I happened to catch a peek at her around 1:00am. Such is the life a soon to be twenty-something.

I had my book club meeting last night, which you guys know is my favorite night of the month. We discussed the book, laughed (till my face hurt), shared memories, mishaps and miracles. I love those ladies to the moon and back.

I came in from book club to find my husband looking rode hard and put away wet. Apparently in the four hours I was gone the boys teamed up to ...bring him down. I don't know exactly what happened, but before he trudged up to bed I heard him mumble something about a Wendy's chicken sandwich getting thrown across the room....the dog running away....an Ipod brawl and a naked boy sobbing in the kitchen crying out ,"You can't handle things the way mom does!"

*whisper* I can't wait till next month *whisper*

Lists and Brackets

By Chris

I have a mandate to blog this morning. Really. Got the call a little while ago: "write on the blog today," were the boss lady's instructions. She's busy doing the Easter egg project . . . and regular blogging is on her checklist, so here I am. Speaking of checklists, Teresa has left one of hers here on the desk. It's a pretty interesting glimpse into the life of my Superwoman (some are checked off, others not):
  • Yoo Hoo (I think it means the chocolate drink, not the joyful outburst)
  • Black soccer socks
  • Bracket
  • Prescript refill
  • Deposit checks
  • Talk to daughter about moving out!
I think I'll take care of the first and last items for her.

And, here's our first Green Family NCAA Tournament Bracket Challenge Update. We all did brackets, and we're keeping score. 1 point for first round accuracy, 2 for second, etc. To make it even more interesting, we've added President Obama to our pool, since he's made his picks public. Ben was winning for a good part of the day, but the grown-ups have taken a small lead through day one:
  • Mom: 14
  • Dad: 14
  • Ben: 13
  • Lauren: 12
  • Nick: 11
  • Obama: 11

careless

by teresa

Last night I though I would help Ben out and feed his hamster.
I'm such a good mommy to pitch in with his chores.
About thirty minutes later I heard him scream.
"Mom...where's Pooh?"

Apparently this good mommy didn't shut the cage door and the hamster was nowhere to be found.
We all ran upstairs in a panic and the first thing I noticed was Shorty (the dog) standing in the corner looking guilty.
I freaked. Had Shorty made a snack out of Ben's hamster?
Ben was so upset. He loves that rodent like a brother.
We moved beds, pulled out dressers and scoured toy boxes.
After about thirty minutes of complete chaos Chris found him hovered in the corner behind a chest of drawers.
Phew.
I was saved.
I don't think I could have handled the guilt of Pooh's death on my conscience.
Chris made it a point to tease me about it the rest of the night.
I will never live it down.

did you wear your green?

by teresa

As a mom I made the ultimate mistake yesterday.
I sent my child to school....without any green on.
I totally forgot about St. Patrick's Day.
Chris reminded me of the holiday later and I realized what I had done.
Visions of pinching and teasing flashing in my head.
The guilt consumed me.
So I did what any good momma would do.
I went to his school, found him in the library, pulled him behind the biography section...and put a green shirt on him I had smuggled in from home.
Crisis averted.

rain rain go away...

by teresa

We have not had a dry day since Thursday.
I'm sick of frizzy hair and wet shoes!

Hormones...I blame it on the hormones!

by teresa

When did my son turn into a slob?
When he was little he went around closing all the doors and cabinets, straightening the rooms and picking up any toy that happen to be out of the toy box.
He even has a fascination with vacuums (much to his fathers dismay). Wherever we went, he would want to see their vacuum.
An ocd toddler...a chip off the old block.
I had high hopes for this kid.
Even as he grew older his need for order and cleanliness made a mama proud.
Then IT happened.
Puberty.
It came and took my little neat freak and turned him into a ......teenager.
AAAAARRRGGG!!
Gone the days of closed drawers and hospital corner bed sheets.
When he leaves a room now it looks as if one of our east coast hurricanes has blown through, leaving a wake of debris and devastation.
And vacuums....it's like kryptonite to Superman!

I should be used to this already. Our daughter is such a slob, she would put the president of Slobville to shame with her slovenliness.

I have one child left to try and transform into a little stepford son.
Ben...your my last chance!

news at 11:00

by teresa

Went grocery shopping today.
In the rain.
I hate grocery shopping in the rain.
But when your outta diet coke...ya' gotta do what ya' gotta do.

While strolling the aisles of my neighborhood Food Lion I had an accident.
A boob accident.
I had been twisting and tugging at my bra all day (the dryer had wrung it to pretzel form) and it was starting to pinch the "ladies".
When all of a sudden I felt a stab. It hurt.
The under wire had snapped at the end and pierced me in the rib.
It drew blood. Apparently my brasserie has some serious hardware.
I could not take the pain. Every time I moved it scratched and poked me again. I had a cart full of groceries, so retreat to the car was NOT an option.
So I reached down my shirt and attempted to remove the giant metal U gouging me.
It took a minute to punch it through the end, all the while looking like I was giving myself a breast exam right there in frozen foods.
Yes, there were a couple of people who breezed past me, but no eye contact was made, so I think my chest challenge went unnoticed.
At least that's what I hope.
What if they caught me on the hidden camera and it ends up on the local news tonight.
That sounds just like something that would happen to me.

"CHESAPEAKE PTA MOM ARRESTED FOR LEWD CONDUCT IN GROCERY STORE"

My favorite teachers

by ben

After my inspiring comments on my last post I've decited to write another one. Well today my favorite teacher Mr.Willams subsatutide us and he is my favorite teacher beacause i'm his favorite and he treats me like it too. For example today in class Mr. Willams was passing out airheads [my favorite candy] to the class and my friend Chris said he did'nt want his. Out of all the kids he could have given his to, he imeditley turned to me and gave it to me. When all the kids were whinning and saying it was'nt fair he put another one on my desk. So while all the outher kids got one I got three. whitch also reminds me of another teacher that likes me. My P.E. teacher Mrs. Nettles. A couple of days ago we were just sitting in P.E. doing roll call when out of nowere Mrs. Nettles says to me... you have the cuteist face. Then she took me to her office to show all the other teachers. While all the teachers were ohhing and ahing over me I was thinking, why am I here. ever since that day shes called me cute face.

young or old...it's always snack time around here

by teresa

My sister left my niece Kaden alone watching tv while she blew her hair dry. When she walked back into the room Kaden had gone into the snack cabinet and taken six packs of cheese and crackers. You know the ones with the red sticks that you can use to spread the cheese on yourself? She ate them all. In five minutes. gross.

I was putting some luggage away in the attic in Lauren's room. Sitting inside the space is an empty beef-a-roni can and a spoon. gross.

no phones in school...it's the law

by teresa

I had to go to Nick's school today to pickup his cellphone from the Principal's office.
fun.
He took it out to see what time it was and got busted.
Duh son, there are giant time tracking devices affixed to the walls which show you the time.
It's called a clock.

What is it with my kids and phones lately?

spud

by teresa

I just got up, came downstairs and entered the kitchen.
There was a potato laying in the middle of the floor.
A potato.
What in the world goes on in this house when I go to bed?

Ben speaks

by ben

Last night was an exciting night. I was screaming and yelling at Joe's (my best friend) game. In double overtime they won. Today my throat and my ears hurt. If your wondering why my ear hurts, it's because my mom and Joe's mom were screaming as loud as they could right next to me. Are you wondering why I am putting something on the blog? My mom made me! She said I couldn't go outside to play until I wrote a paragraph. So I asked her, do you think all the other kids have to write something on their family blog? This is crazy.

Actual questions and comments heard in the Green house this week

Why is Keagan's tooth on our counter?

Shoney's is nothing but big hairy cheese.

I need a cone of silence.

I don't have myface.

Doesn't mom look cute in her picnic blanket pajamas?

They're better than the tangerines. They're waaay better than the upside down polar bears!

Where's my Imodium?!

The firetruck talked to me.

I just want to have an hour or two where I don't do anything.

You sure like your dwarfs.

You have clownaphobia.

If I was born then, I would have pulled the hoods off their heads to show everyone who the meanies were.

I don't want to pooper scoop the yard. Fine....grab a book! Okay, okay...geesh...I'll do scoop the poop.

If they find my dna on that it will not look good.

Where did all this crazy come from?

We have a privacy fence, we have a privacy fence!!!

Did you take your pill today?

Live your life in such a way that when your feet hit the floor in the morning, Satan shudders & says...Oh no....she's awake!!!

Taught a class full of super hyper 3 and 4 year olds this morning. Jonah and the whale. You gotta keep it interesting to hold their attention for more than two seconds. I got big laughs when I said the whale throw Jonah up....and that as gross as that sounds, it's better than being pooped out. Because what preschooler doesn't like to talk about poop? right?
The weather was so beautiful that we took them outside to play instead of using our classroom centers. It really makes a difference in their behavior when they get a little running around time. Praise the Lord for blue skies and warm breezes.

9 to zip!

by teresa

Ben had his first spring season game today. The weather was perfect and the boys were on point. They won 9 to 0, with Ben scoring the first goal of the season. Way to go Monarchs!
Ben had a blue mohawk when the game began and by the end (with sweat and water poured over him) he had blue streaks running down his face. never again.

George sent me a link a few weeks back. It is hysterical and a bit disgusting. Click over and enjoy. When you get to the bottom of the page please click next to see more and more of these gastro-challenging creations. I wish they would show the people eating them. I bet my daughter would eat half of them. It's called Why your fat!

the comings and goings of the green's

by teresa

*I got a new hairdryer after busting my old one (dropped it on the floor and smoke started pouring out). It was the first time I ever spent more than 9.99 on one. Who knew, but it really makes a difference paying a bit more. I tried it out on Nick's hair this morning. His thick mane was dry in less than a minute. He got a kick out of the "power", grabbed it from me, stuck it under his shirt and blew his clothes out like the michellin man. *boys*

* We went to Kristian's soccer practice last night and I froze a toe off. Not really, but it sure felt like it. Loafers and 20 degrees don't go together. Out of 17 kids on the team, 11 are girls. wow....that should be fun. Also, Chris volunteered to help coach. *Of course*

* Lauren, Chris and I sat down last night and did the Campbell's labels and Box tops for Ben's school. Well, actually, Lauren and I did it and Chris sat in the same room teasing me for always spending so much time on volunteer work. But that didn't stop him from recruiting me to come to his office to volunteer once a week. I told him I would do it if he took me out to lunch when I came. Also, he has to call me "secretary". We will do anything to keep it exciting around here.

* Lauren has spring break next week. Let's take bets about what time she will rise each day. 2:00pm? maybe 3:00pm?

* This weekend is the CAA tournament (which ODU plays in) in Richmond. Chris has not missed this tournament in over twenty years. Nothing interrupts this annual pilgrimage with his college buddies. Not rain, snow, birth (Ben's) or illness. Lauren and her ODU crew are now joining in this tradition. They have scraped together and gotten a hotel room (one room) and are heading down tonight to settle in for four days of nonstop basketball. Which means me and the boys have the whole house to ourselves for the weekend. PAAAAAAARTEEEE!

* Ben's spring soccer season starts on Saturday. Wow. We had one whole weekend free of soccer. AAAArrrrggggg!

*Nick's band festival is tomorrow night. He is excited and has been practicing alot. We have been run out of every room in the house by his incessant tooting *ba dump bump*

we finally got some snow

by teresa

A little white stuff blew in yesterday morning. Not enough for a snowman, but enough to delay schools by two hours. The kids had some time to slosh around the yard, make a couple of snowballs and ruin a pair of khakis. I did get three pictures of the fun before I darted back in the house to escape the frigid air.
Kaden on her first ever snow day.
Maya, peeking from the back door on her first ever snow day.
Kristian and Ben having a little fun before school. Notice they have no gloves, no hats or water proof shoes and their soaked through to their underthings. They are definitely not up on the correct snow fun attire, seeing as it is only an every five years kinda happening around these parts.

my hubby bought me a green icee....it was a good day

by teresa

Yesterday we took the boys to see the Harlem Globetrotters show. It was part of Ben's birthday present. Nick had been a couple of times over the years, but it was Ben's first time. They loved it. Clapping, cheering, hysterical laughing. They even got one of those red, white and blue basketballs and stayed after to get the team to sign it. It was definitely money well spent.
